About the Author and why we need a campaign
This is a Case Study that illustrates the Authors own experience at the hands of a bad trade union, and why action is needed now.
It was devistating when UNISON colluded with my employer
UNISON, my union colluded to force me into retirement from Southwark Council in February 2024 for writing a report at my director’s request.
The director was sacked as was his senior manager, while my immediate manager was dismissed for supporting me.
How did the union collude?
- UNISON failed to support me by providing representation when originally victimised by management
- Failed to provide suitable union support after being driven to ill health with suicidal tendencies
- Assisted the council break its own welfare support rules and misusing its welfare assessments
- Withdrew support by failing to attend a final, crucial welfare meeting.
- Delaying the support of constructive dismissal to deliberately make me ‘out of time’
- Misinterpreting my post dismissal case so to deny legal representation
- Ignoring my many desperate pleas for help, including several appeals to Christine McAnea whose assistant chastised me but failed to follow up her promise to make future contact to assist me
- UNISON deliberately failed to give me critical information in a timely manner, for example how to make a grievance, my rights to appeal, instigate and assist when attempting to ensure continuity of representation. I only learned of the certification officer after I approached citizens advice!
Where am I now?
- I have spent the intervening period lobbying my MP, Katie Lam. Katie is still waiting for replies from Ms McAnea having written several requests.
- Ann Widdecombe is interested and has been supportive.
- ACAS cannot help as the union conspired to disallow me.
- Solicitor response has been slower that expected.
- Did get some limited support from Southwark News who have published potential fraud & wrongdoing
- I have tried several national journalists, but no reply.
- August (last month), Unison started stage 2 grievance in response to my before action letter to Ms McAnea – However, they repeated thier orginal lies to defend thie indifensable. Not a suprise as the complaint was investigated by the very people who stitched me up as above!
Next Move – the campaign begins!
If my experience sound familiar to you or someone that you know, then join this campaign. There is a genuine need to make Trade Unions accountable for the service they provide. Paying members need consumer rights like any other person that purchases and insurance or service.
Your support is vital in this campaign. there will be many adjustments while our movement is in its infancy; and many changes while this website is under developmen
